Great add-on for a video capable iPod.Review Date: 2010-02-07 Rating: 10 out of 10Watching video on an iPod drains the batteries pretty quickly. I normally use a Tekkeon rechargeable Lirhium Ion external battery pack with my iPod and other small electronics. I had, frankly, forgotten that I owned this Griffin product.
In terms of every day use for shorter trips, I like it better in some ways than the Tekkeon.
Why? I don't need to carry an AC adapter for charging!
I can use rechargeable 9v batteries or the disposables that are available practically everywhere. Even with a couple of 9v batteries, this is a lightweight package.
A word of caution: do not view this as a means of recharging your exhausted iPod battery. It doesn't work well in that role. Instead, use this as a supplemental power source. Plug it into the iPod while the iPod battery is still showing a 50% or better charge. You want to deplete the 9v battery first, before you grind down the iPod battery.
Use it the right way and you'll get several more hours playtime out of your iPod.
Great little add-on, especially for iPod video watchers.

ReviewsPiece of crapReview Date: 2009-08-13 Rating: 2 out of 10I purchased this product as a backup power source for my iPod, since I travel frequently and don't always have a chance to recharge. I tried it yesterday for the first time on a flight back to Boston from Frankfurt. I used the batteries that came with the TuneJuice and got no more than around 10 minutes of additional additional play time (it's supposed to give 14 hours of audio playtime). Thinking that the supplied batteries might have been old, I replaced them with four new batteries only to find them completely drained in around 10 minutes as well. So not only did I waste the money I spent on this crappy power source, I also wasted four more perfectly good batteries as well (not to mention the inconvenience of 6 hours of flight time without access to my iPod). My recommendation - buy something else.Wouldn't leave home without it! (Seriously!)Review Date: 2009-01-17 Rating: 10 out of 10I frequently travel to Africa for work and the flight from DC to South Africa is about 18 hours, not to mention the 2- to 6-hour intercontinental flights. My TuneJuice has been an absolute lifesaver on these long flights. A few 9-volt batteries kept my old 80GB and new 120GB video Ipods going for hours and hours. I have given 3 as gifts and recently bought myself a second one since I see TuneJuice 1 is being phased out and I would hate to travel without it.
I'm not sure what happened to the 1-star people... my guess is that they tried to use it to charge their dead Ipod battery. The trick is to always have some power in your Ipod so recharge your Ipod fully before you leave, then use it for a while until the battery indicator drops a bar or two. THEN attach the Tunejuice. Your power bar will jump to full and stay that wait for at least 3 more hours. Once you see the power bar drop again, replace the Tunejuice battery and you are back to full power. I travel with 5 extra 9-volts (which makes security look at me suspiciously) and haven't been let down yet.
The only weakness to the TuneJuice is that the wires connecting it to the 9-volt battery are thin and can snap if you aren't gentle. But I have had mine for 3 years now and have logged at least 300 hours in the air with it and it's worked like a charm. I highly recommend it!
Go for TuneJuice2Review Date: 2007-04-28 Rating: 6 out of 10I ordered this and then realized that there is a TuneJuice 2!!! The TJ2 works off AAA batteries and works MUCH longer. It will give you a much better back up.Don't Buy This ProductReview Date: 2007-04-15 Rating: 2 out of 10It will work for a few minutes on my iPod 40GB, then everything freezes until I disconnect it. I've tried 5 of these on 2 different iPods, and the results are the same every time. Don't waist your money, as I did. If I could rate this product lower than 1, I would.
